There is finally some relief for drivers in Union Township now that several traffic projects have been completed.

Ken Geis, Union Township Administrator and member of the Clermont County Transportation Improvement District, gave an update on the projects during the Sept. 25 trustee meeting.

Geis said construction has been wrapped up on Clough Pike and state Route 125 in the township.

The Clough Pike Widening Project has been going on for several months. Geis said the improvements are noticeable now that the work is complete.

“The improvements that have been made have been dramatic,” Geis said. “The work they’re doing in Union Township is paying off.”

The Clough Pike Widening Project included adding a third travel lane along Clough Pike between Mt. Carmel Tobasco Road and Glen Este-Withamsville Road, according to the CCTID.

The $6.5 million project was designed to reduce congestion in the area as well as upgrading drainage and signals in the area and adding a new sidewalk to provide better access for walking to schools, churches and parks in the area.

Geis said they have also completed work on state Route 125.

The project, according to CCTID, added right turning lanes at Mt. Carmel Tobasco Drive, Independence Drive and Commercial Boulevard/Nine Mile Road.

The $3.46 million project also widened Mt. Carmel Tobasco Road to add an additional left turn lane onto State Route 125.

Geis said they have already begun to notice a difference with the projects that have been completed.

“It’s moved a lot of traffic, 125 was a problem prior to this,” Geis said about the projects.

Drivers in the township will also be able to look forward to the completion of the Eastgate Boulevard project this fall, according to Geis.

The $10 million project is redesigning and widening Easgate Boulevard over State Route 32 in the township, according to CCTID.

“Eastgate Boulevard should be done before Thanksgiving,” Geis said.

Other projects including State Route 32 and Interstate 275 interchange improvements are ongoing in the township.
